Bing’s powerful beginning to the year within the UK search industry seems to have come to a halt as Google claims its rightful spot to the top by covering more ground throughout April.

Google watched potentially as their share improved from 88.12 to 88.38 with Bing dropping for second month running from 7.9 to a staggering 6.7. Additionally Yahoo dropped from 3.6 to 3.5 in April.

As it stands at the moment, and for the foreseeable future, Google has a powerful hold over the UK market and the UK mobile market.

Everyones been talking about Google’s new mobile algorithm update this month. Reports stating this was let out gradually throughout April and it is now fully out there for all to see.

The change may have caused panic amongst many marketers and businesses even though they were given plenty of notice to make the much needed preparations. In just over the last few weeks there has been a staggering 4.7% increase in mobile friendly websites gracing the scene. Of course everyone is additionally talking about the Grand National, and evidently so, Google Trends are able to prove this from the searches throughout April.

Perhaps one of the main reasons why the Grand National was so popular this year could have been linked to the legendary jockey AP McCoy retirement announcement if he was to win the race. However, this was not the case as the race was won by Jockey Leighton Aspinall.

Furthermore, the most searched for celebrities throughout April were indeed the late actor from Fast and Furious 7 Paul Walker and American former Olympic decathlete Bruce Jenner.

Due to the release of Fast and Furious 7 which shown the late actors final acting scenes, he was searched for in relation to his death in a freak car accident in 2013.

Bruce Jenner hit the headlines due to his recent announcement of undergoing gender transition surgery. Whilst Bruce Jenner seems to be well recognised as more of a television star, due to his association with the Kardashian family, he managed to become a very popular search across the world.

Other news stories that were vastly searched throughout April included the devastating Nepal earthquake, the apple watch and the new series of Game of Thrones.
